Abstract

Cervical insufficiency means a painless cervical dilation without uterine contractions or bleeding. This m ay resul t in abortion. Our case had a history of infertility of 22 years and 2 previous abortions at the first 3 months. Her third pregnancy was achieved by ovulation induction and intra-uterine insemination.lt started as a twin pregnancy. At the 14th week one of the cwo sacs was lost by complete abortion. Aftenvards a McDonald cerclage was placed. At the 29th week prematüre rupture of membranes occured and the birth was made by cesarean section.Cerclage prolonged this pregnancy for 15 weeks and resulted with the birth of a premature but healthy infant. We believe that cervical cerclage is an effective therapeutic option for cervical insufficiency.
