Abstract

Primary malignant melanoma of the small bowel is a rare entity. They are usually asymptomatic and this makes the diagnosis difficult. Origin of the malignant melanoma of the small bowel is controversial due to lack of melanoblasts in the small bowel mucosa. Despite curative surgical treatment, the prognosis of these tumors is dismal. A 49 year-old woman who had primary malignant melanoma was treated surgically. She died at the 7th postoperative month due to liver metastasis.
