Abstract
Aim: This descriptive study was carried out to investigate the factors that predispose to obesity of abese and nonabese outpatients and the manner of being affected from obesity of abese individuals. Methods: The study endrolled 120 out-patients abese and 120 normal weight individual applied to Ege University Medical Faculty Hospital Outpatient clinic of Internal Medicine. Questionnaire was used in collecting the data. Results: Fifty percent of the sample population was abese. It was shown that the that the percentage of family history of obesity was higher in abese outpatients than nonabese outpatients. Being a housewife was alsa found to be an outstanding predisposing factor for obesity. Conclusions: To be a housewife and presence of abese individuals in the family were predisposing factors for obesity. Obese outpatients experience different psychosocial problems.
