Abstract

In this article, we review the philosophical reasons to language reform in the Turkish medical language, together with a brief history of the reform movements starting from the times of Seljukian Empire. When the historical landmarks are reviewed, it is hard to say that we have achieved the aims of the Turkish Language Reform in the scientifıc literatüre. In o ur opinion, the outcome largely results from the inability of the Turkish physicians, although considered as intellectual leaders of the society, to grasp the philosophical reasons behind the reform. Further suggestions, especially with regard to the future policies are discussed.
