Abstract
In this study serum lipoprotein levels and fasting insulin levels of 32 women with polycystic ovary syndrome and 31 healthy women with regular menstruation and no hyperandrogenism were compared. In polycystic ovary cases it was seen that serum triglyceride, VLDL cholesterol, Apo-B levels and total cholesterol / HDL cholesterol ratio and LDL cholesterol/ HDL cholesterol ratio increased (p<0.05) whereas HDL cholesterol and Apo-Aı levels decreased (p<0.05). Even though body mass index is the same in the two groups (p>0.05) a statistically significant increase was observed in fasting insulin levels polycystic ovary cases ( p<0.05). This findings suggested that there is a higher risk of coronary artery disease in hiperandrogenic women.
